Finally, this week's interviews made it possible to get feedback on the idea itself:
1) Define your interviewing strategy - I asked people to look at my elevator pitch video using it as a description of the idea and opportunity and comment on it. I also followed up with questions about some of the key points I was hoping to convey to see if they got them and how they felt about them.
2) Reflect on what you learned - I generally received positive feedback about the SORIN concept. Even people who did not have a strong conception of social responsibility or how it related to financial services were able to piece it together quickly after seeing the elevator pitch. This gave me confidence that not only is the message pretty targeted but that people see the need for it. The current political climate that is bringing issues of income and wealth inequality, Wall Street greed, etc. to the forefront is also beneficial for SORIN. The one thing I really need to think about in great detail is how to establish a consensus on the meaning of social responsibility as it relates to financial services.
You can listen to the second set of 5 interviews below. Please note that right before these interviews started, they had seen a short presentation about SORIN so my first question was for initial impressions.

Hey Farsid, I think you did something really unique with your interviews. Basing them off of your elevator pitch was a really cool idea, and I think that it definitely helped make your interviews more useful. People had better background information about the topic and that makes their feedback important. Overall, really good job on the interviews and I might just use your idea of showing the customers my elevator pitch in the future. ReplyDeleteHello Farrukh,
ReplyDeleteI wasn't assigned to comment on your post but I did take a second to look at the link you left on my page to your blog. I wanted to take a moment and tell you that I appreciate the very thorough comment you wrote even respected your directness in pointing out the flaws you saw with my assignments. With this in mind, you did not belittle my work, rather, offered resources to be of assistance to me and that I found very considerate. In light of the entrepreneurial mentality, as our teacher pointed out, we need to be able to absorb criticism even when it is not exactly to our liking. Thank you again and good luck with your further efforts.
Hey Farrukh!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is very nicely organized and well thought out. This is the first time I have run across someone who used their elevator pitch as a tool for generating feedback, great idea. Customers give you very thoughtful feedback which is always helpful. I think this topic is very important, and greed was initially listed as my top world problem. Great work!
