Questions
1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?
I had no idea that Corning was such a multi-faceted and successful innovator. I just knew of them from their cookware but to learn about how they have been and are leaders in glass and plastics was pleasantly surprising.
2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
The innovation landscape map and the different types of innovation described from disruptive to architectural to routine to radical will take some time to understand how they apply to different types of businesses and products. I suppose classifying innovation is something that didn’t surprise me but the way these classifications have been laid out are confusing because they are new to me.
3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
Does an innovation focused on providing social benefit add value?
How should non-profits and movement focused organizations approach an innovation strategy?
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?
I disagree with the author in that there is no emphasis or examples in the article about non-profit or movement focused organizations. Aren’t they also adding value based on innovation?
