1) A discussion of your general approach and strategy to search engine optimiation (SEO). What were some of the activities you did for each blog post to pursue SEO?
I have plans on becoming a sociologist and through entrepreneurship to make a social impact as well. So I focused on the terms "impact sociologist" and "aspiring impact sociologist" using them in different blog titles and with the text. This was less prominent in later blogs that focused on the business concept. I also used SORIN and "socially responsible initiative" to consistently highlight the business opportunity was I was developing.
2) What were your keywords. How did you select those keywords? Did you change or refine your keywords through the semester?
As listed above, the keywords were "impact sociologist," "aspiring impact sociologist," "SORIN," and "socially responsible initiative." I added SORIN and "socially responsible initiative" later in the semester.
3) How did you use social media to enhance your SEO efforts? What your your surprises or general impression of using social media to improve your blog's profile? Was social media generally receptive of your blog, or did it get ignored?
I did not use social media to enhance the SEO efforts. The reason is that SORIN is a concept that I fully anticipate rolling out so I wanted to use this semester and the next one to plan it out properly before exposing it on social media. I also did not feel that it made sense to link SORIN to the class at this point.
4) What was your most "viral" post? In other words, which post obtained the most traffic? Why do you think?
Elevator Pitch No. 1 was my most viral post achieving the most traffic. Also, Idea Napkin No. 2 received the most comments. I believe this is because I linked to the first elevator pitch and idea napkin from various other posts.
5) Finally, did you make it to the first page of Google results for your keywords? If not, what page of results did you make it to?
Here are the google search results for my four keywords from earlier today:
- Impact Sociologist: I did not make the first 10 pages of google results searching for this term but if I put it in quotes, the halfway reflection post made it on page 4.
- Aspiring Impact Sociologist: This was my most successful keyword. The top 5 results on page 1 of Google search are my posts.
- SORIN: Unfortunately, SORIN did not make it to the first 10 pages of google search results. This is something that I will really need to work on in the future.
- Socially Responsible Initiative: Socially responsible initiative did not make it to the first 10 pages of google search results but searching for the term in quotes did bring up the home page of my blog on page 10 of google search results.
Hey Faruk, I really enjoyed your post here because it was much different than everyone elses and was able to read everything clearly due to your great organization. Same with you my elevator pitch had the most views and this was probably because it was on another website where it could get some traction as well . ReplyDeleteIt's really cool that you grouped all of your keywords to fit your sociology and social impact approach. It was also a consistent approach to utilizing SEO. It's good that aspiring impact sociologist made it to the top of the Google searches, especially because that is currently your title.
