This is a very important assignment but one that proved to be difficult for me for two reasons. One, I was traveling for a good portion of last week and this week so I was not able to devote enough time to the assignment and two, my concept and the industry it relates to is difficult to pin down.
I am working on a hybrid socially responsible eco-system that is targeted to help the middle class overcome the issues in our current financial services industry. In order for me to track down an industry expert, a market expert, and an important supplier is almost impossible at this time because I am still in the process of understanding what my industry is, who can be a market expert, and what type of suppliers we will need. If I was not distracted with travel during the past couple of weeks, I may have been able to identify one or two experts but since I did not have the time, I was not able to do so.
I am putting up a post for the exercise to get feedback on what others may consider to be industry and market experts for my concept and also as a reminder that I will have to circle back and finish this exercise at a later time because it is crucial.
Please provide any feedback that you believe will prove to be helpful in completing this assignment for the SORIN concept I have outlined in this blog.
Questions (unanswered at the moment)
1) Who they are and what their background is.
2) Which 'slot' you are filling with each person (i.e., domain expert, market expert, supplier), and how the person fills the spot.
3) A description of how you found the person and contacted the person.
4) The nature of the exchange you have with the person -- what favor did they do for you? What is the return expectation?
5) How will including this person in your network enhance your ability to exploit an opportunity?
Finally: Reflect. This experience requires you to do a little 'targeted networking.' How will this experience shape how you participate in any future networking events? Did this experience differ from your networking experiences in the past? How?
Greetings, I too had some difficulty with this assignment. Particularly in deciding who to contact. My advice to you would be to just try to find some businesses who are in a similar field and ask for their help. I had to contact several different businesses, but that worked for me. Hey Farrukh! I understand the difficulty, especially with traveling and trying to connect people. I commend you for pulling through and trying to finish it though. I think your idea is really cool and well needed. I believe you could talk to several businesses that are similar to yours and see how they do it. Maybe when it comes to solar power or recycled water. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really interesting concept, and I can see how you might have trouble finding experts in this field. One thing I might suggest for finding people to contact would be to widen your search. When someone is attempting something as new and unique as what you are doing they are unlikely to find anyone who has done it before, but there are probably people who have done something vaguely similar. Instead of trying to find an expert in a field you are creating, try to find someone whose expertise has some sort of link to what you are trying to do. Hope that can help a bit.
